Salinas Lettuce Strike
Today, August 27, the union known as the “Filipino Labor Union” started a new strike in the Salinas Valley area. This time they are against lettuce. The workers are trying to end ethnic discrimination and bust the myth that Filipinos are willing to work for almost anything. This strike doesn't seem to be nearly as significant as the others in the past. Although they say that they won't stop the strike until they reach an agreement with the owners of the ranches. This strike is rumored to be organized by the head of the union D.L. Marcuelo who is a businessman from the town of Stockton, California. The size of this group is roughly 4,000 people and has doubled since the group was formed in 1933 only one year ago. I worry that more and more people will continue to join and then some real damage may occur. What do you think?
